Wai
Care is a community environmental education and action program helping
to raise awareness of our waterways and the local environment in
Papakura.
Using water
quality monitoring as a tool, the Wai Care program aims to empower the
community to protect the health of our waterways through a network of
schools, community groups, and other organisations. The people involved
in the program are working together for healthy waterways in our
District.
Wai
Care brings
the different groups
together to regularly monitor the water quality of Papakura’s local
streams and where necessary,
take action to restore their health. The Council has committed to
provide the training and resources needed to monitor streams in the
District and to support remedial action to improve stream water quality
in our District.
Primarily
focusing
on taking action with the Wai Care
groups, together the Council and the groups are committed to
helping improve our
streams and reduce the pollution. It’s not just about testing the water
quality, it’s about improving our environment and restoring our streams
to health.
