Community Road Safety
Community road safety is the education
and encouragement side of road safety. It aims to involve and engage the
community in road safety issues. This can include education and
advertising campaigns or projects.
How to get involved in community road
safety
Community Action – we encourage
community members to get involved in road safety initiatives. This can
include doing letter box drops of pamphlets, using the ACC Speed trailer
and informing Council and Police of issues on their road.
Community groups who wish to deliver a
road safety project may be eligible for funding from Land Transport New Zealand. Interested groups
should
telephone Council's Road Safety Co-ordinator on 295 1302.
Land Transport New Zealand ‘Community
Road Safety Programme’
Land Transport New Zealand
funds community groups to deliver road
safety projects. In Papakura District, 6 groups are delivering a range
of projects including driver licensing, road safety decision making,
child restraints, road safety dramas, a family road safety day for Asian
migrants and a Youth Road Safety art competition for students.
