Road Safety at
Intersections
A new brochure produced by
Papakura District Council’s Road Safety Unit aims to help reduce the
incidence of intersection crashes in the District.
Crash
statistics show a high proportion of crashes in the District occur at
intersections, and per head of population the District has significantly
more crashes than other similarly-sized Districts. The most recent
figures from Land Transport New Zealand show 172 crashes occurred at
intersections.
The
intersections that feature most often in accident reports to Land
Transport New Zealand are Spartan Road/Great South Road in the Takanini
motorway interchange; Averill Road – with many crashes involving cars
pulling out of the supermarket car park; East Street, the Beach
Road/Elliott Street intersection and the crossroad intersection of Grove
Road and Old Wairoa Road.
Significant
numbers of Manukau and Franklin residents are also involved in crashes
in Papakura District: though 53 per cent of drivers involved in such
crashes in Papakura in 2004 were locals, another 42 per cent were from
Franklin or Manukau.

brochure
is available
