Pahurehure Inlet Management Plan

Papakura District Council and Auckland Regional Council have been working together to develop the Pahurehure Inlet Management Plan. The study area for this Plan includes most of the coastline of Papakura District.

Pahurehure Inlet is Papakura’s coastal waterfront. It has the potential to be a significant community place – a place for recreation, a place to explore our cultural heritage, a place to appreciate the environment and ecological distinctiveness and a place that Papakura residents can be proud to call ours. This Management Plan is about realising that potential.

In order for the Pahurehure Inlet to become ‘a jewel in the Crown of Papakura’ a number of actions are necessary. Mangrove and Pacific Oyster expansion issues must be addressed. Pathways and access points to the water must be enhanced. The provision of a quality water body for recreation must be actively pursued. Our areas of ecological significance must be protected and promoted and our history and cultural heritage must be recognised.

Addressing these issues and others, will require cooperation between the councils, other agencies, iwi and the wider community. We hope that this Plan will create a strong foundation for coordination and progress together.

WHAT IS A MANAGEMENT PLAN?

A Management Plan identifies the values important to the community in a particular area, sets a direction for the use and management of these values and identifies any challenges that need to be overcome. A Plan also includes an implementation plan to ensure that the identified values will be protected or enhanced.

PAHUREHURE INLET MANAGEMENT PLAN (1MB)

The Pahurehure Inlet Management Plan is a joint initiative between the Auckland Regional Council (ARC) and the Papakura District Council (PDC). The purpose of the Inlet Management Plan is to provide for the future enhancement of recreational opportunities, amenity (or identity), cultural and ecological values of the Pahurehure Inlet.
