Older Persons' Housing

Papakura District Council is committed to assisting all residents in the neighbourhood, this includes the provision of housing for those residents of the District aged 60 years and over.


Locations

Council owns 72 flats for the elderly and disabled persons in our District, located in the following areas:

Takanini

  • Conifer Grove, 12 Challen Close: 8 single / 2 double
  • Waimana Court Flats 1-7 16 Waimana Road
  • Flats 8 – 21 15 Waiare Road:  17 single / 4 double

Pahurehure

  • Pahurehure Flats 14 Don Street Papakura 21 single / 3 double

Papakura

  • Coles Crescent 17 Coles Crescent:  5 single / 2 double
  • Marne Road 14 Marne Road:  5 single
  • Marne Road 22 Marne Road: 5 single



Eligibility Criteria

Note: applicants under 60 years of age may be eligible if they have a Doctor's Certificate stating that they have a permanent disability with no likelihood of returning to work.

Residents wishing to apply for housing in the District should have a maximum equity of $17,500 for a single adult ($21,500 for a couple), a genuine housing need, have lived in the District or have family within the District and receive an age, national superannuation, war pension or invalid's benefit.

Those interested in applying should complete the Application for Tenancy of a Council Housing for the Elderly Unit available from the Council's Customer Service Centre between 8:30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday at 35 Coles Crescent, Papakura or telephone 09 295 1300 to have one sent to you.

Successful applicants are placed on a waiting list until a Unit becomes available. Note: all applications are considered and assessed on an urgency/needs basis and applicant/s will be contacted when a Unit becomes a available.



Rent and Bond Requirements

All tenants are required to pay a bond (equivalent to two weeks rent) at the commencement of their tenancy.

Rent must be paid fortnightly in advance.

Rent may be paid in cash at Council offices, or the Council can assist with setting up an Automatic Payment for the tenant.
