Moving towards a single council The councils in the Auckland region have been working cooperatively to move smoothly to the new Auckland Council on 1 November 2010. That cooperation has helped us standardise Building Consent online information and produce a single set of associated forms. You can use these forms now at any local government organisation in the Auckland area. How do I apply for a Building Consent? How long will it take to process my building consent? What are building inspections?
Building
Inspections are required by the Council
to ensure compliance with the
approved building plans and the NZ Building Code. Your Building Consent
will list the inspections required for your project. When your project
complies with the
Council can carry out inspections of work as it progresses and issue a Code of Compliance Certificate at the end of the project.
Building
Inspections during construction are required prior to covering up or
closing
One working day's notice of building inspection is required to be given to the Council. This can be done by contacting the Council’s Regulatory Services Unit on 09 295 1300. Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm.
Important Note: It is your responsibility to contact the Council to book inspections. This can be done by contacting the Council’s Regulatory Services Unit on 09 295 1300. Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm.
Is a Building Consent for an indefinite period?
No. You must start building work within six months of receiving consent and make reasonable progress within 12 months of starting work. If this is not done, then you may need to apply for a new Building Consent.
You are also required to give the Council two working days notice of your intention to commence building work under a Building Consent. This can be done by contacting the Council on 09 295 1300 between the hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday.
How much does a Building Consent cost? It varies and depends on the complexity of your project, the dollar value and whether sufficient information is submitted. Our Regulatory Services Unit will be able to provide an estimate for your project in advance, but this is an indication only. An invoice will be provided when you submit your application and must be paid before your application can be processed. Bonds may also be charged. |
